Why you're losing colour clients to a box

We can bury our heads in the sand and pretend this isn't happening,  or we can face up to the fact that more and more clients in the average salon are going elsewhere to colour their own hair.

Superdrug, Boots and even the local supermarket are stocking more and more box colours.

As hair stylists,  I don't need to point out the reasons that clients shouldn't be colouring their own hair, we all know those reasons and when the client visits us for cutting services t is up to us as professionals to kindly and gently point out the reasons they should come to the salon.

However,  simply providing the same 'all over colour' service but at professional standards won't convince the majority of clients.  Therefore,  what can we do?

1.  Show these clients how much of a better look they can achieve with multi tones in their hair.  If they are looking for the natural look or something more striking,  the skill needs to be brought back into colouring hair.  Simply popping a colour all over is not going to inspire anybody to part with their hard earned cash in your salon.

2. Introduce some foils again.  Pretty much everyone could do with lightening/brightening/warming or enhancing their look even with a few foils across the parting to even more bolder ones peeping from beneath the layers.

3.  Be a showcase.  Arrive at work ready to wow your clients with your own brilliantly coloured locks that shine with condition and professionalism.  Show them what can be achieved from a professional stylist colouring their hair.

4. Ensure that once you have booked in that colour service that you give it 100% concentration and create an amazing look that will get the client loving it and all her friends talking.

We all know i'm famous for talking about "wow-ing" your clients on my blog here.  So we will just remind you of that too. Create an amazing experience for them to enjoy.  It's not just about the service.
