What should you be earning in your job?

Research has shown me that actually,  the news is pretty good for salons.

Surprising isn't it?

We are seeing salons closing like never before.  We are all asking why.  We all wonder what is going wrong with the industry.  Yet,  recruitment experts Reed have some pretty amazing figures to see.

The beauty and spa industry (which includes hairdressing) has shown that there is a significant increase this year on not only jobs advertised but also the salaries offered.

Jobs advertised = 267  (143 more than in 2013)

Average salary = £34127 (£11390 more than in 2013)

These statistics show hope.  There is hope for the salon owners.  To see so many empty shop windows is more than worrying.  Yet it seems that the consumer still shows a need to

1. Get their hair done
2. Be wowed
3. Spend money in a recession

We have all heard how lipstick sales go up in a recession (a small affordable luxury) and the same theme goes right throughout the salon industry.

Needless to say,  if these figures have come from Reed,  it is very likely that the sums don't include any numbers from self employment which is massive in the hair business.

Do you feel encouraged by this?  Is it nice to know that you are not in a dying business?
Not only are  hairdressers the happiest people at work but also there is a significant opportunity to enjoy a wonderful career within the industry.

Pass on the good news!
